Dry skin, if it is not accompanied by rashes or sleep disturbance, may just need frequent application of moisturising creams. If the use of creams does not improve the condition of the skin, consult a dermatologist.
Dry skin is usually caused by a decrease in the skin's barrier capacity, which may be followed by skin inflammation or, less commonly, a skin keratinisation disorder.
Dry skin is rough to the touch, reddened, dull, flaky, layered, with dry whitish patches, cracks and even fissures, accompanied by discomfort, itching, prickling and even soreness.
