Acne is a disease that lasts for months and even years. It manifests itself as blockages of the sebaceous glands (comedones) and reddened surface nodules and pustules and less commonly as cysts and abscesses in the subcutaneous tissue.
Acne prevalence decreases after the age of 25, although about 15% of women and 5% of men continue to have acne as adults, mainly due to hormones.
Causes of acne:
- Genetic factors
- Hormonal factors: higher androgen hormone levels
Acne is not caused by poor hygiene.
Treatment is based on the stage of acne and is long-term. The outbreak can be seen on the face and/or back and/or chest.
