There are several misleading myths about deadly melanoma. For example, that melanoma always develops from a mole and due to excessive sun damage. People also believe that sunscreen protects against melanoma.

Although men are half as likely to develop skin cancer as women, they are twice as likely to die from it. Because they discover the disease too late!

Tattoo ink does not increase the risk of developing melanoma, but it is harder to diagnose melanoma hidden within a tattoo.

Unfortunately, sunscreen may actually promote the development of skin cancer because people who use sunscreens with SPF don't get sunburned and spend a very long time under UV radiation. In this case, their cumulative dose, meaning the amount accumulated over a lifetime, is very high, and as a result, they may eventually develop skin cancer.
